After a very solid start and a great follow-up batch of episodes, Avatar: Seven Havens has finally reached what it’s been building up to for its first season. While it’s been delivering a very interesting story for the first six episodes, a lot of the more intriguing parts were shrouded in mystery and happening in the … Read more
Now that we have firmly returned to the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender after twelve long years and had a few episodes to settle in, Seven Havens has kicked off in earnest. After introducing twin Avatars, giving us their out-of-his-depth teenage mentor Jae, and establishing the state of the world, episodes 4-6 work instead on character … Read more
On December 19, 2014, I was home from college for winter break, and my friend organized a watch party at his house for the two-part finale of The Legend of Korra. We had a pretty high turnout, considering that the last two seasons had been taken off the air and relegated to being inconspicuously posted … Read more
I will still maintain, to this day, that the first season of Ted Lasso is perfect. When the series first premiered on Apple TV back in 2020, I had my doubts about whether a character from a series of NBC Sports commercials could carry an entire story. The way the series brought together comedy and … Read more
Robert Pattinson is on top of the world right now; in the past few years, he has given anywhere from standout to masterful performances in The Lighthouse, The Batman, The Boy and the Heron, Mickey 17, Die My Love, The Drama, and The Odyssey. And that’s not counting his hotly anticipated upcoming role as the antagonist of Dune … Read more
I’m not going to claim to be some kind of expert on video game film adaptations – oh wait, I am. Having watched an obscene amount of these films, both Eastern and Western, animated and live action, I can confirm that creating an adaptation of a game does not seem to be easy. Until recently, … Read more
If you had told me last year that Apple TV’s number one show of 2026 would be a hybrid cosmic horror/comedy show, I’d have said you were out of your mind (no pun intended). But here we are, on the tail end of the 10-episode first season of Widow’s Bay, and I’m as surprised as anyone. … Read more
Like many dinosaur enthusiasts, I have grown weary of the Jurassic Park series. With only one great movie out of seven, and perhaps two additional watchable ones, the franchise has not only survived but thrived due to the lack of competition in cinemas. When was the last high-quality theatrical dino movie? Pixar’s underwhelming The Good Dinosaur … Read more
It is an almost regular occurrence now that a new Star Wars film is announced and then subsequently cancelled three years later after no new information. First under Kathleen Kennedy, and now under Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, Disney and Lucasfilm have openly struggled to produce any sort of follow-up to 2019’s much-maligned Rise of Skywalker. The Mandalorian … Read more
Spider-Man Brand New Day has had a lot riding on it – not only does it need to continue Spider-Man’s story from a very difficult place, but it needs to reinvigorate the plateaued interest the public has in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before Avengers Doomsday hits this December. This is a tall order, because many MCU … Read more
